Ultrasurf

As you may already know, China does not let its citizens surf the web freely; access to certain online content is restricted. The Ultrasurf application was developed as a response to this unfortunate situation. This is a tool that bypasses internet censorship and lets you surf the web freely, securely, and anonymously. It uses strong encryption to protect your data transfer, it hides your IP address, and it clears the traces you leave behind (deletes cookies and browsing history).

Ultrasurf does not have to be installed, which means it is portable. To get started with the application, you need only download a 1.5MB archive, extract its contents, and run the Ultrasurf executable. To show you that it is up and running, the application displays a golden padlock in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Launch Ultrasurf and you will be presented with an Internet Explorer (IE) window that you can use to safely and anonymously surf the web and another window that lets you access Ultrasurf’s options and settings. When you close this second window, the IE window will close as well. Minimize it, go to the IE window, and browse the web as you want to.

The privacy part refers to the fact that Ultrasurf lets you anonymously surf the web and it lets you clear the traces you leave behind while surfing the web (it clears the browsing history and removes all stored cookies). The security part refers to the fact that the data you transmit is encrypted and thus protected from eavesdroppers. The freedom part refers to the fact that Ultrasurf lets you access any online content you want – it bypasses internet censorship.
